Hardware and trackers

Claim shipped trackers and assign their configuration, vehicle, or asset.

What is a tracker?

A tracker is the physical GPS device fitted to a vehicle or asset. It determines its position from GPS satellites and reports that position, plus supported telemetry, to Trakngo over the mobile network.

Every tracker has a unique serial number printed on its box, which is how you claim it into your organisation. Claiming links the device to your account; assigning links it to the specific vehicle or asset it monitors. Until it is assigned, its data has nothing to describe.

Claim a shipped tracker

Open Fleet → Hardware. This page is also available at /trackers and lists devices assigned to your organisation.

  1. Select the add-device action.
  2. Enter the serial number exactly as printed on the tracker’s shipping-box label.
  3. Confirm the claim. The tracker now appears in your organisation’s hardware list.

Configure and assign the tracker

  1. Open the tracker and choose a configuration compatible with its make and model.
  2. Assign the tracker to the vehicle or asset it physically monitors.
  3. Confirm that it is active, then check its entity detail and the live map for incoming telemetry.

A tracker should not be assigned to multiple entities. Update the assignment when hardware is moved.

Activate or deactivate hardware

Deactivate hardware that should no longer participate in fleet tracking. This preserves its record while making its operational state clear. Reactivate it when it returns to service.

Who can claim hardware?

Hardware viewing and editing are separate permissions. Group-restricted users cannot claim new trackers; an organisation-wide admin must do that.
