Geofences
Draw operational zones and control when entry or exit events can be raised.
What is a geofence?
A geofence is a virtual boundary you draw on the map around a real place—a depot, customer site, yard, or restricted area. Trakngo can recognise when a tracked vehicle or asset crosses that boundary.
Crossing a boundary produces an entry or exit event. On its own a geofence simply defines the place; pairing it with a geofence alert rule is what turns those crossings into something your team is notified about.
Create an operational zone
Open Fleet → Geofences to manage boundaries for depots, customer sites, restricted areas, or other locations.
- Select New geofence and enter a clear name.
- Choose a circle for a simple radius or a polygon for a custom boundary.
- Draw the boundary on the map, review its placement, and save.
Configure its event schedule
Open the geofence’s Schedule page to choose when boundary crossings can raise events.
Raise events when a tracked entity enters.
Raise events when a tracked entity leaves.
Raise events for either crossing direction.
Use always-active coverage or define different days and time windows. Crossings outside configured windows are ignored.
Review and refine
Open an existing geofence to rename it or redraw its boundary. Keep edges away from nearby roads or adjoining sites where normal GPS variation could cause unwanted crossings.
Geofence events become operational notifications when used by a matching Geofence alert rule.
Visibility and related alerts
Group-restricted users only see geofences included in their visibility groups. Creating, editing, and deleting geofences require separate permissions.
